Church,

Tuesday night’s Lot of Party in the parking lot turned into a block party. It was great. What we thought would be a crazy act of peace in the freezing cold, attracting only those of us silly enough to roast hot dogs and marshmallows in frigid temps, became a Spring weather celebration. A good number of church folks, some community friends, and others from our partner organizations, Northwest Community Center and the Literacy Council, all joined together for good fellowship and good… well, we ate hot dog. 🙂 Many people walking around downtown on a beautiful night joined in the celebration.

Many people met new friends. A couple old friends reconnected. A few remembered their time at our first pop-up dinner. One women told a story of cooking every night in the park and once sharing her fish feast with police officers. A couple of adults had never roasted hot dogs over a fire before. We all witnessed a beautiful sunset.

We had good conversations. We had awkward silences. We met people unlike any we had ever met before. The diversity of God’s children was certainly present, and with that we broke down cultural, racial, age, socioeconomic boundaries. That is good work, church. That is an inbreaking of the kingdom of God.  Many on the outside got to see what we do often on the inside. We were all blessed.

Let’s do that again — as a church and in our individual lives.

Peace,
Rebecca
