Position Overview: Second First Church, Rockford, Illinois, is seeking a self-starting individual with an entrepreneurial spirit to assume the newly created role of Director of Youth Ministry. As a federation of two historic downtown churches (Second Congregational UCC and First Presbyterian PCUSA), we seek to be a welcoming, invigorating place to explore the heart of Christ and be sent out to serve the world. As the first Director of Youth Ministry, you will support the spiritual development and church involvement of the youth (6-12th grade) of our church and community. Working closely with our Director of Member Care and Neighborhood Connections, you will create and maintain a safe, inviting and dynamic atmosphere for learning and spiritual growth on Sunday mornings. With the support of the Christian Education Ministry Team and other church members, you will have the opportunity to explore meaningful service and fellowship opportunities for youth throughout the year.

Part Time: 20 hours per week including most Sundays and Wednesdays through the academic year with Summer and Christmas breaks. Time off arranged with advance notice. $20,000 yearly salary. If coming from afar, we will put in effort to help you find additional employment. Ordainable position in PCUSA or UCC if qualified.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Encourage youth participation in the life of the church
  • Recruit and empower a team of adult youth ministry volunteers
  • Invest in the lives of Middle School and High School students and their families
  • Create and implement youth programming geared toward spiritual growth and service
  • Engage parents and church members in students’ faith journey
  • Support the Confirmation Class led by the Senior Pastor
