Position Overview: SecondFirst Church (www.secondfirst.org) Rockford, Illinois, is seeking a self-starting individual to assume the role of Rockford Overnight Café Supervisor. Working closely with the Associate Pastor of Member Care and Neighborhood Connections, you will oversee the staff of the café and create a safe welcome environment for folks of all stations in life: staff, volunteers and guests alike.
Part Time: 20 hours per week (more if desired), 8:00 PM – 11:00 PM daily, 10 weeks possible beginning January 13 and continuing as funding allows. The pay rate is $20.00 to $25.00 per hour based on experience.
Core Responsibilities:
- Create a warm hospitable environment for staff and guests of all races, religions, genders, sexual orientations with various mental health issues
- Get to know each guest by name and story
- Supervise the staff of the café ensuring they are prepared and fulfilling their responsibilities, jumping in to do all the same tasks when needed
- Manage the welcome process, filling out the necessary paperwork for each guest
- Maintain the guest list in cooperation with the Rescue Mission to ensure anyone who can stays there
- Connect with the City and other social service agencies as needed for each individual
- Ensure Covid protocol is being followed as communicated by the WCHD
- Handle difficult guests, calling police and EMTs when necessary
- Oversee a drug and weapon free environment
- Welcome, thank and record donations
- Communicate data, highlights, stories and issues with the Associate Pastor
Qualifications:
- Previous work with the homeless community (volunteer or paid)
- Mental Health First Aid (can be attained)
- Experience with people with addictions
