I wanted to prove to you with this picture that our middle school kids can do dishes… and enjoy it!  Last Friday with the help of Kristina Pando and the able driving of Katy Paterson, I took five of our confirmation kids to Stronghold Camp and Retreat Center for an overnight retreat. What a great group of kids!

kids2In addition to playing ball, cooking s’mores outside in a fire pit, and having a raging pillow fight, we had some great discussions. Friday night we talked about the practice of prayer. We looked at four different places in the Bible that talk about prayer – learning how, when and why we can pray. We then practiced prayer in three different ways. We walked through a silent meditation allowing the Holy Spirit to come to us.  We prayed out loud together and then we sang.

Having focused on our personal spiritual lives on Friday, Saturday morning we talked about serving and healing for our neighbors. The kids laughed as they acted out the story of the friends bringing the paralytic to Jesus through the roof (pictured below). If only we can be friends like that for those in our schools and neighborhoods.

May we all study and pray and play (in body, mind or spirit) like our middle schoolers. Thanks be to God.

Peace,
Rebecca
